Slow Mathematics
Problem: a square or rectangular tile of X by Y pixels already has colour information stored per-pixel as Red, Green and Blue values where (0,0,0) is black and (1,1,1) is white.
We now want to add a fade effect which makes the left and right edges dark, while leaving the center at full brightness and all of the original colours preserved in the fade.
